Our Story
Unity of Beaverton was founded in 1937 as the Church of Truth and Metaphysical Library, serving Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Southwest Portland, Oregon with classes, access to resources, healing prayer, and Sunday services. One of the many powerful people who were part of our community through the 1950s was a young Mary Manin (now Morrissey), whose family were active leaders in those early days.
In 1985, we moved into our current building and became Unity Church of Truth. The works of Charles Fillmore and the teachings of the Association of Unity Churches and the Unity Institute were the core of our offerings. In 1990, we accepted that the word "truth" is not always understood in our world, so we changed our name again, becoming simply Unity of Beaverton. In 1995 we became a certified EarthCare congregation, reducing our impact on the planet. |
We still serve the communities of Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Southwest Portland - and beyond.
We still offer classes and prayer based on the teachings of Charles Fillmore and his successors, who saw a need for what they called "Practical Christianity" based on an understanding of the Bible as a Metaphysical document from which we could learn to live a life in communion with the One Divine Power of the universe. We still accept the fundamental understanding that, in a universe filled with Omnipresent, Omnipotent Love, all paths lead to the One. We still welcome all people who seek a deeper, richer life, filled with the Presence of Spirit. And we look forward to welcoming you! |
OUR PURPOSE:
As a Unity church our purpose is to know, experience, and express divinity in community.
